As an Engineering student at University Campus Barnsley (UCB), you will study in top class facilities which are ideal for aspiring engineers and motorsport professionals. The newly-built Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Centre will allow you to learn the key principals of engineering within an ultra-modern environment.
The centre is STEM assured and houses engineering and electrical workshops with laboratory facilities. The centre also boasts learning zones containing computer equipment and reference materials. Graduates can progress into careers in the utilities industry, IT, medicine and the automotive (motorsport) industry.
How long is the course?
This course runs for two years and commences in September. It will be delivered over three days per week.

Higher National Diploma (HND) in General Engineering
What will I study?
This course is designed to give students the skills, knowledge and understanding expected of a modern professional engineer.
This qualification consists core and specialist units:
- Analytical Methods for Engineers
- Engineering Science
- Project Design, Implementation and Evaluation
- Mechanical Principles
- Electrical and Electronic Principles
Where will I study?
You will study at the STEM Centre, Old Mill Lane, Barnsley S70 2AX.
What equipment will I need?
A concise list will be provided during the enrolment process.
How will I be assessed?
There are no formal exams on the BTEC Higher National Diploma. Modules will be assessed by a mixture of coursework and end of module tests. Assessment methods for this qualification are project work, practical and written assignments, presentations, group activities, written reports and observations.
What can I do next?
Following successful completion of this course you can progress onto University to undertake an Engineering degree or go into engineering related employment.
