Students from University Campus Barnsley (UCB) are holding a temporary exhibition of their course work in a former menswear shop at the top of The Arcade, Barnsley.

The venue, which until last year had been empty for some time, has been redecorated to create an interesting space to showcase their work. The Contemporary Gallery is being used by UCB as part of its new Commercial Gallery Management course.

Head of Art and Design Ian Latham said: “The Contemporary Gallery is proving to be a great success it’s a really good spot and the large windows are attracting passers-by, meaning we are getting a good footfall into our exhibitions.”

The exhibition will feature a selection of mixed media and specialised work including installations, sculpture, fine art, textiles and jewellery and is an individual response to an open brief.

Interdisciplinary Art and Design student Ryan Short said: “It has been a great course, I’ve really enjoyed watching the progression of our work evolve as a group. Showcasing our art in the campus studios has been very different to exhibiting in a professional gallery that is open to the public. It’s a huge step for the future.”

The Contemporary Gallery in The Arcade will run from Monday 8 to Friday 26 June 2015 and will be open Monday to Friday, 10.00am to 3.00pm. The Launch Event will be held on Friday 5 June, 6.00pm to 9.00pm.
