Our students are to bring the drama of the 1984-85 miners’ strike to the stage in an original production.

‘Two Tribes’ has been written and devised by students on the Acting for Touring Theatre foundation degree and depicts the bitter struggle between striking miners and those who continued working throughout the strike.

The show will take place at The Electric Theatre at 7.00pm on Thursday 23 March and reflects the personal hardships and violence which were endured in mining communities as people from across the UK fought to retain their local collieries.

Cultural trends and music of the mid-1980s also feature in a production which will send theatregoers on an emotional rollercoaster.

Course leader Peter Lawton said: “The students have worked very hard to produce an excellent production which will evoke vivid memories for those who were involved in the miners’ strike. ‘Two Tribes’ will also be highly educational for people born after the strike who want to learn more about this pivotal period of British history.”

Tickets priced at £5 are available at www.ticketsource.co.uk.
